I’m a huge Haute Hippie fan, but now I’m also a huge fan of the designer. She threw a lot of great talking points to being well dressed in this video, but also managed to mint some suggestions that summate that relaxed, effortless aesthetic.
All in all, if you were wondering my thoughts on getting dressed, she pretty much hit them all.

…it’s this idea of seasonless, year-round dressing. I don’t really think that people, especially really cool girls, certainly the girls shopping at ShopBop, are necessarily changing their closets. It’s not like they have a spring closet that becomes a summer closet that becomes a fall closet. I think it’s a very dated concept. Instead… what’s interesting is taking a few things and wearing them differently.
Exactly! That’s precisely why I “invested” (I use that term loosely, because I’d had a bottle of champagne and it was on New Year’s Eve, in a corner of the living room, when Rob wasn’t looking) in a compact-car-sized shipment of silk blouses: they work in winter with a light wool layer; they work in summer. [Also noted in noggin: “These work in NY, but they’ll also work in FL!”]
Anyway, the less I have to shave the top layer of skin off of my knuckles getting to the under-bed bins of clothing from seasons past is good for me.
p.s. Shopbop, if you were wondering, my heart lies with this skirt and beats a steady beat for her olivey green loveliness. Just if you had a few extras lying around with sequins missing. [That just reminded me of this magical scene from the best movie ever.]
p.p.s. I’m a fan of Haute Hippie on Facebook and you should be, too—tons of great photos.
