I am a huge yoga fan.
See, normally this would be a pretty innocuous statement, except if you went to college with me. If you did, you’d be throwing the phone against the wall and shouting, “No. NO.”
[Yoga in happier times: unwinding in Congress Park on my Aurorae Yoga mat, the Slip-Free Rosin bag, and my luxurious mat in a beautiful lavender that perfectly suits my Aquarian sensibilities.]
And with good reason. Yoga almost kept me from graduating college on time. For real. We had mandatory athletic requirements and I was happily meeting mine, second semester senior year, with a golf class and a yoga class, the latter of which featured a heinous, totally disjointed soundtrack which comprised various hits from C+C Music Factory, Janet Jackson, Salt ‘N Pepa, and The Spin Doctors. I’m serious. One day I was feeling particularly wretched [contaminated beer] so signed my name, briefly considered a downward facing dog and peaced out, my departure made inconspicuous by the blaring of this jam, I have no doubt.
To make a long story short, I struck up a conversation with a lonely looking girl in the corner during the next class [the President of the Honor Council. Maybe that’s why she was sitting alone] and said, “I totally signed my name last time then left. Oops!” She thought this over, then replied, “You have 24 hours to turn yourself in to the Honor Council for lying.”
Hey, now!
I had to represent myself in front of a jury of peers, was found “not responsible,” then went home and popped the tops off of 4 bottles of pink champagne and a case of Chewy Chips Ahoy. While this all sounds relatively painless, I assure you it was not. Yoga was off the docket for the better part of the next decade.
Until I was laid off from my job.
Yoga gave me a purpose during my unemployment. I’d spend close to 2 hours every morning practicing, and it melted away a lot of the stress and negativity I was harboring after losing my job. You could say it turned me around, and I’m really thankful for that. We reconciled, and now—even though I’m doing more Romanian dead lifts than baby cobras—yoga is something I consider to be a little indulgence.
Which is why I was so happy to receive this beautiful mat from Aurorae, and get the chance to give one away to one of you! I’m not one to push new practices on people (except for kittens, everyone should have kittens), but if you’re not into yoga and are considering it, here’s a great reason to start. I find it to be 100% about choosing to spend time with yourself—choosing to take time out of insanely busy days to stop and breathe. At C+C, we are huge proponents of enjoying the little things in life.
So here’s the goods:
[Aurorae extra long mat in any color, towel, and Rosin bag.]
The mat is ultra thick and extra long, and features a focal point icon on one end. It’s eco-friendly material, odorless, and SGC-approved.
To enter, just become a fan of Aurorae on their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter, and leave a comment on here with your email address and telling me the worst possible song you can imagine doing yoga to. Because there is no way you are going to top doing a child’s pose to “It Takes Two to Make a Thing Go Right.” But you can certainly try.
Good luck! I’ll announce the winner this time next week!

ah man…no facebook or twitter! but…i do have that t-shirt and a lavender yoga mat ;0)
you have the glow in the dark rocket tee?! haha! that’s so awesome.
I read the title of this one and said out loud to my computer screen.. “whaaaaat!?” then died laughing out loud to the point that my cat fled the room. haha Having been there during the college yoga “issue” I am glad to hear you have given it a second chance. Was there not also a small injury involved with that yoga drama in school? i dunno maybe i made that up that in a hungover daze. 😉 xox

How’s Baby Got Back for a tough song to do yoga to?
Chose the Facebook option.
My vote for worst yoga song would be Smack My B**** Up by Prodigy.
Love this post. “Lady in Red” would be a song I wouldn’t enjoy doing yoga to….along with many others 🙂
This giveaway could not come at a more appropriate time for me! Post break up I’ve been getting back into my fitness routine to clear my head and bought a $10 for 10 classes package at this really great yoga studio. The classes are 70-90 minutes long which is an issue for me as I tend to go to the gym one a month, do 30 minutes on the elliptical and peace out.
I did my first 70 minute candle light yoga class and even though it was hard and seemed like 200 minutesI loved it! However, I went again yesterday for a 90 minutes one and it was sooo hard and the room was so hot and steamy and I didn’t realize how sore my palms and knees were from the day before that I had to leave 30 minutes in…the receptionist was in the class and came out to “see if i was okay” As if it wasn’t embarassing enough being in child pose when everyone else was in…i want to say reverse cowgirl but i know that is not right…
anyway im going to stick to the candlelight ones for now and put a towel over my mat (the one i pay $1 per class because I don’t have one) to help the hand and knee pain and also keep doing on demand work out videos on my tv to help get my butt in shape so i can do the 90 minute one.
oh and for a song the “thong song” is pretty excruciating normally so it would be even worse in yoga
Worst song to do yoga to, ever…well, it’s not really one song in particular, but absolutely ANYTHING by Nickelback. I would take Salt ‘N Pepa’s sweet rhymes over Chad Kroeger any day.
haha. You, friend, are my new favorite person. [Hate Chad. Have risked electrocuting myself to change the radio station once from inside the shower, because I just couldn’t take it.]
The worst possible song, or maybe the worst song in the universe is Baby Got Back. I’d leave the yoga studio immediately!
this is jogging my memory. I seriously think she might have played this. OH AND I FORGOT: she wore a little Madonna headpiece with the black furry microphone attachment that went in front of her mouth. Hahahah! Ah, teacher, you were so stuck in the 90s.
I’m thinking that Bust a Move by Young MC wouldn’t go over to well at yoga.
Saw a post on Saratoga Seen about your blog and now i’m addicted!
Haha… Bust a Move! Can you even imagine? I am loving all these hilarious songs, but this one is excellent. I might have to get it on iTunes now…
Thanks for the sweet comment! You made my day! -C
Going to have to agree with Kate. I might actually walk out of a yoga studio if they started playing Nickelback.
I couldn’t resist this…
How about the VMI fight song? If I were in an inversion and this came on I would fall over then curl up into a ball, rock back and forth, and try to forget that lonely morning in Lexington sitting on a stone wall in my cut offs’n’boots waiting for you to come get me as stopped to interrogate me….
Although, the song does bring out my inner Little Edie Beale so it’s good for something.
love you. love your blog in ma life.

You slay me. Dude, that morning still breaks my heart. The look on your face and the little tears when we found you sitting there waiting on us. Then I cracked a Smirnoff Ice in the car on the way back. That was certainly a happy birthday—haha.
VMI Marching Song it is!
Twitter finally comes in handy.
Loved your post– I just bought a month of yoga classes for $30 (steal!), and pretty much simultaneously got laid off. So I’m going to have a LOT of free time to do yoga coming up.
I’m going to go with… anything country? I had a room mate one summer (in rural PA) who loved a song called “John Deere Green” by John Diffie. Trust me when I say that not only is it the most annoying song to hear when you are trying to do yoga, but it’s pretty annoying the rest of the time as well.
HAHA. I know Joe Diffie, growing up in Jacksonville—Hilarity. I am feeling for you right now, sister, on the getting laid off. but yeah—country would be a no! 🙂
Ha Ha Ha. Kudos for your honesty though. Now we know why honor council members have no friends. How about “I like big butts?” Who is that, Busta Rhyme?
We are so on the same wave length. Last week I started meditation to try and relieve some stress of the last few months I told you about, as well as to try and heal my body since they haven’t figured out what is wrong with me yet. (At the suggestion of my psychic who told me that I was holding in so much anger it had all the nerve endings in my body inflamed.) I know…I’m a kook. But anyway, I found this meditation on Deepak Chopra’s website that is called the Intention Meditation and you can actually meditate for things that you want to bring about. Like those Isabel Marant boots, wink wink.
I was just informed it is Sir Mix a Lot. 🙂
Carey – Please look and try out Lululemon yoga/pilates clothes…i heart with such a vengeance i have banned myself from stepping foot inside the store near me as well as am punished from even attempting to click on the links they send out flashing anything new. Last week my pilates instructor asked me where in my closet i can fit all my Lululemon gear. So…please try!

I’m on it… thank you! For awhile I thought all there was were the Stella McCartney for Adidas stuff, or Turlington’s Nuala stuff. This sounds perfecto!
ps
love your blog alot
ps I love you a lot

Since I’ve left college 2 years ago all ready…yikes! I’ve taken up a more convenient exercise routine that doesn’t involve getting in my car and driving to a gym. (I was spoiled with one 2 blocks from my dorm.) Anyways, I have bonded with Ana Caban and finding my Core and have yet to purchase a decent mat. So hook a woman up!
Love the atmosphere aesthetic in those pics by the way, perfect for a newly released Yoga DVD 🙂
Anyways, to the point, I couldn’t imagine trying to release my negative energy while jamming out to Ying Yang Twins – Say I Yi Yi (for your non-listening pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUUiy6ziQaQ)
By the way, unless I’m blinder than a bat (which may be possible) I couldn’t find where to Fan the Aurorae page, but point me in the right direction and I will, but I did however LIKE it!
Ah yes. I forget—Facebook has changed the way fan pages operate. You now can only “Like” one, rather than “Become a Fan”. Sort of ridiculous, but I’m sure their logic will shine through at some point…right?
I am beyond grateful for your sharing this jam. INTENSE. I love it; you’re the first person to take it “there.” I’m LOLing imagining the looks on the cumulative faces of a group of women trying to hold poses during those lyrics.
Looking up Ana Caban…
Lords of Acid, Show Me Your P****
I see you’ve found your calling. The blog is great.
first, props for you to doing yoga in a public place, because I’m not sure if I have the balls to set up shop in Congress Park.
Second, can I tell you how long I have been looking for a non-slip mat? None have yet been able to withstand my sweaty palms.
I’m going to have to name “Use Somebody” as the most worst Yoga song. This song has been so overplayed that every time I hear just a few notes of it I want to shoot myself in the head. Not exactly the right yoga mentality.
The worst song I can think of would be “Body Movin'” by The Beastie Boys. The intro completely sounds like a 1970s gym class and the rest of the song is….not conducive to peaceful yoga poses.
shakespearelives@gmail.com
the worst song would have to be ‘Eye of the Tiger’, as soon as I hear that I want to start boxing, which probably doesnt fit with the whole ‘yoga is to relax’ aesthetic!

i took some yoga classes in high school and college but went a long stretch with no yoga in my life. i’ve been taking yoga classes for a few months now and am so glad! it makes such a difference in how i feel and how i think. we listen to a lot of reggae in my classes, which i love. a song i wouldn’t want to hear: that “i’m too sexy” song by right said fred.
i’m a facebook fan!

Enough said.
Hope I am not too late to enter.

:O shocked at the Honor Society Hearing — glad it went okay though. I can’t see myself doing the traingle pose if Britney Spears’ “3” song — I don’t know if it’s the geometry associated with the pose or the number of angles, or if the song is just being blared by my neighbors right now lol 🙂 happy i found this blog by the way; what a nifty name
Thanks! 🙂
Pretty brutal hearing, huh? I just felt like the whole thing was a result of my naivete— I am way too trusting of the average bear. But I also learned a lesson. And what a creative song, ha–you crack me up. BRIT-NAY!
I had my first yoga class in college, and our professor could always tell if you had anything to drink the night before. Downward dog, he’d come poke you in the thigh and you’d just topple over from all the wine the night before…Oh well.
I think “Mother Lover” from Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg (SNL) would be tough to hold a pose. But I’ve got in in my itunes mix in honor of Mother’s day coming up.

I meant to mention how hilarious this was. I wasn’t hungover that day, I don’t think… I actually think I was totally unprepared for a talk I was giving on Yassar Arafat later that day. Haha!
Did I mention also that my teacher wore this Madonna black mouthpiece microphone?
thanks for entering, btw 🙂

ooh how about d*!k in a box for savasana?
First off, you have amazing style and I would love to have 10 seconds in your closet to take out as much as I could carry 🙂
If that’s your next giveaway let me know!
As for the yoga question – I’ve done yoga to a Police cd (who doesn’t love Sting?) and Punk Yoga as well (Misfits anyone?). As much as I adore 80s hair metal I could never do a practice while bumping either Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N Roses, or Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue.
for some reason britney’s “i’m a slave 4 u” keeps popping into my head. i love yoga, i got into it 14 months after my first boy was born, after a few months of yoga i was finally able to touch my toes for the first time! i became a fan of aurorae on fb!
