Tom Petty and Nightro.
Tom Petty and The King Bees.
or… Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?
What a freaking face-rippingly awesome music documentary. Such an incredible story, magical footage, too many tight t-shirts to count, a lot of Floridian flare (howdy, Gainesville natives), and some amazing songs you forget you know all of the words to. The human brain is a crazy thing. From eating a block of hash in European customs, the birth of synthesizers, duets with a pretty desperate Stevie Nicks to a few tragic losses—you’ll realize there’s a lot more to TP&THB. I’m a brand new fan all over again.
Most of all, it’s a pretty thorough examination of the evolution of the music industry—from early producers luring bands across the country with a wad of cash in their mother’s station wagon to epic law suits. TP had some serious fight in his belly, and staying power to match.
One question: Whatever happened to the Old Grey Whistle Chest?
Enjoy. Find it on Netflizzle or buy it here.
