[J.Crew socks, chambray shirt and skirt + Golden Goose boots + vintage cross + antique turquoise earrings + T by A Wang tank.]
Strap in: I’m about to talk about clothes.
It’s nuts how one, tiny element of a look can change the entire feel of it. I had on cut offs before I put on this corduroy skirt. It looked great. It looked blog-o-rific. But it wasn’t my mood. Now, it’s essentially not really anything I’d normally take the time to post.
(Except, I really wanted to show off this amazing engineer-striped chambray number I got, just as the chambray shirt makes its way out.)
Essentially, this ended up being sort of sweet, when that’s not really the vein of fashion blogging these days. Or my vein, really. I was listening to Steppenwolf when I got dressed, for Christ’s sake.
Classic (read: predictable) isn’t the dominant brand—the one winning Chictopia contests, or getting snatched up for WhoWhatWear Daily’s StyleStalker, or getting this shit hyped out of it on Lookbook. And here you thought bloggers just took pictures of themselves for fun!
On a positive note: I don’t care, and I do just do it for fun. I do have to be critical of myself sometimes, though, or I’d just sit in a comfortable rut. But wait: this was extremely comfortable, literally. It oozed this relaxed, American, classic femininity. Add garden gloves, and I could be brushing dirt from my brow while arranging potted plants behind a picturesque, cedar shake cottage in some little New England coastal town.
Today, the loser wins!

p.s. Are yall following the rest of the Croweology videos? They’re pretty awesome. You should “like” The Crowes’ Facebook page. Not because of that, but because the most amazing redneck fans constantly commenting like Chris is on there checking it himself. (If you’ve ever been to a show, you know the folks I’m talking about.) One chick announced she walked down the aisle to some Crowes; another dude said, “My family passes joints like other families pass potatoes.” Pure class, baby!

1. Love the chambray shirt, Jenny over at wikstenmade has made some amazing shirts from chambray in her past collections.
2. The golden goose boots have been in my shopbop wishlist for 2 years, I’ll just have to make do with my Frye campus boots, someday, maybe I’ll score a used pair on Ebay.
3. Do you like the A. Wang tees? They are all over the place, and I’m curious what all the hype is about.
4. I love the socks, I kind of want to knit a pair, but I don’t know if a 30yr old mom of 2 could pull that off, it’s a super cute look, and a good way to transition into fall.
5. Living in Arkansas, I know what rednecks you are talking about, my husband (his name is Rob too) always refers to them as the “play some skynrd!!” group at shows.
🙂
Well, being from Jacksonville, FL, I’ve been known to be a Skynyrd fan in my not so distant past…
I LOVE A. Wang tees. They are the best. I have as many as I’ve been able to afford to get my hands on. They drape perfectly, are super soft, and just pure magic. I ruined one in the wash (grey) but have a few others and a couple of dresses that are in constant rotation. No other tees compare (except maybe Kain Label) in my opinion.
The Goose boots happened out of sheer luck. SB was having one of their amazing “Buy Some, Get $$ Off” programs, so I essentially got them for half the price. Combine that with the arrival of a tax return, and they were all mine.
Of course you could pull them off! I’m 29… no kids, but it’s definitely great transition. I think the more refined the knit, the easier they are to wear.
I am loving the peek-a-boo sock look – I think i might be able to rock that out this fall (think a 40yr mom of two can pull that off??)
Were your ears ringing last night? My friend Nancy and I were at Maestro’s (enjoying an incredible dinner and a very nice Italian Chardonnay) last night for dinner gushing over you – we have girl crushes 😉
Lovin’ you guys!!!
Most bloggers look so…similar. The ones being Lookbook hyped, that is. Same color palette, same silhouette, same hairstyle. That’s why I love C+C so much- real girl, real clothes, really good taste. I like to see your great classic pieces mixed with newer acquisitions. I like to see how you dress for the occasions in your life, or just for a Tuesday at work. Truth beats fiction in this case.
Dude. I am… completely speechless right now.
I could write you a letter.
I have that skirt! I wore it to death last fall, and man, I wish I had bought it in the orange-ish color too 😦 There’s a version out this year that I’m not sure about. It’s a bit puffier, and I’m mixed about that with corduroy.
Anyway, love this outfit. I think one of my favorite things is that you always seem to have the right amount on (that sounds so weird). I suppose sophisticated people call it ‘layering’, but that word is so overused these days, but I just mean your outfits are always so complete looking (not that you couldn’t add, but that nothing looks missing)! Love!
Why, thank you!
Actually, that’s something the blog has definitely taught me. Things that look ok in the mirror always tend to fall short in a photo; same with my face. (haha) But I’ve learned to adjust things here and there and always go one step further than would be my instinct. [I distinctly remember this when I entered the shopbop fan contest. I felt like I was dripping in weirdness when I left the house, but it ended up working and dictating my style ever since.] Also, I read something a few years ago about adding a 3rd color somewhere to your outfit, that it adds polish. [Although I immediately wondered what the 4th, 5th and 6th colors provide. Panache? Chaos?]
Yay, skirt! I’m trying to wear it this fall since I got it for Xmas and tights made it ride up to high heaven. Pre-tights, it’s perfection!
okay are you living in my house? do you have whisper 2000? or are you taking up occupancy in my mind?
where to begin. statement. not question.
let us discuss the outfit. pure, simple perfection. not overdone. absolutely dreamy. feminine, but also tough with the boots. i love the color of the skirt. i love that you’re wearing it with the striped chambray. i.love.it. and the fact that you are standing in those flowers is totally next level. ps – falke socks over at shopbop – just bought two pairs-lifechanging over the knee-ers.
now regarding chictopia, lookbook, etc. oh god don’t get me started. i feel like it’s turned into something waaaaay too serious. poses, fancy cameras, insanely priced shopping items that the average person couldn’t even dream of – and on a daily basis. i don’t care who’s wearing what on chictopia for the contest. wtf is lookbook anyway?
is anyone wearing anything that will inspire me to sass up my day to day in an affordable or even semi-affordable fashion? – and i don’t mean forever21 for days with a $1000 heel (no offense to either of those brands, but really? really??) since it kind of defeats the entire purpose seeing as that f21 dress is not really ever going to go out with that $1000 heel after the “shoot” is over for the day anyway.
oy
okay i’m done here. you’ve read my mail. and i don’t mean to offend anyone either, but i thought the point was to have fun (at least a little), share ideas, finds, etc.
oh. and how about a little more than 3 lines of writing about the sky is blew and a butterfly just flew by. i mean at least make it a pterodactyl.
thus ends the world’s longest comment.
xoxo,
carrie
ps Falke Striggings (German socks that sound like the eff word. I love Shopbop)

Prettiness. 🙂
i agree with shenoa 100%! also, dude…you’re from j-ville? i lived there for like 5 years & my family’s still there! not just shoe twins, but from the bible belt too! i swear even living there that short amount of time, i have the remnants of a southern twang, say “ya’ll” a lot still & can’t shake my addiction to sweet tea!
i still love that necklace. but how it came into your possession is something i love even more. !
stage IV karma, baby!
1. Pretty lady! Sometimes I forget how retardedly gorgeous you are (no fair). Rob is an excellent photographer! I would reeeaaaallllyyyy love to see you in 3D (and not in the stupid-glasses-at-the-movies way)? Do you realize the last time was at Lizzie’s wedding?!?!
2. I dig the skirt. I can picture it with shorts, but I think skirt is far superior. By a lot.
