A $45-$60 bottle for $24.99? Yup.
From Silver Oak’s founder Ray Duncan, Twomey Cellars has been producing acclaimed Merlot since 1999. 5 cases of the 2004 are available at Purdy’s in Saratoga Springs for a shocking closeout price of $24.99/bottle.
Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV reviewed the ’04 vintage in 2008—he scored it 92+ points, stating it rivaled many Pomerols. Watch the episode here. Try to find this wine anywhere else for under $45. Not to mention, it’s evolved gracefully, and seems to be showing far more finesse than in ’08 when Gary V. sampled it—I would describe it as a lighter-style Merlot with no hesitation. Full review to come; we drank it last night and went back this morning to grab a second bottle.
Don’t miss out on this one, Saratogians.
p.s. Just beyond this stack of Twomey at Purdy’s is a rack full of slashed-price Merlots, including a favorite of ours, Steele Stymie, some Stag’s Leap, and a Duckhorn. Great values. [Also twitpic’d here.]
