A friendly bartender happily schooled me on Johnnie Walker labels—red, black, green, gold, and BLUE! It was quite interesting—even though I had wine. (I took a shot of gold label with the Matt’s in Florida a few years ago and I blew chunks.) Carey sipped a martini and then the second I went to the bathroom, came back to find a fat man in a Fairisle sweater offering to buy her another.
Again… A+ evening at 9 Maple. You kind of can’t go wrong.
Jill Hughes crooned some amazing R&B jams—Carey even bolted up to her during a set break to shake her hand and gush over her voice. Which is really un-Carey, so… three cheers for vodka courage!
Happy Halloween to all the crazy partiers out there, and may you come up with many excellent politically incorrect costumes for us to ogle on Facebook tomorrow. We’re opting out—and opting to stay in. Pour one out for us.
