Meet my first decent vintage piece, found all on my own—without any help from carefully curated etsy shops.
After some encouragement from Kaitlin (at All This Happiness, so lovely) I decided to venture into the awfully quiet back room of Reruns in Saratoga Springs—seriously, it’s so quiet, I panic and imagine Labyrinth-style goblins holding their breath and watching me from under the itchy house dresses and questionable polyester shirts.
This brown velvet Juliet-ish dress was hiding in a corner without a tag. I tried it on in this closet that smelled like my Granny, and it fit me like it was made for me. I decided as long as it was under $40, it was coming home with me. A score at $34.
I feel like it might have originally been made for a production of Romeo & Juliet then hemmed.
I’ll try to get better pictures of it in action at a later date. It has these fantastic romantic sleeves (that need new fasteners, and the hem is falling out), sumptuous, high-pile velvet, and I’ve been wearing it like normal people wear t-shirts and jeans.
Hey, look—there’s Eli’s stuffed elephant bottom left. Definitely balances out the weird, super dramatic pose I’m working; awesome.

love the dress! i love the gold trim. i’m waiting on a vintage fedora and vintage fur coat i got on ebay, hopefully they will work out 😛
Oh it is lovely!! Great find! And that granny smell goes away. . . or you just get used to it pretty quick! Also, I freaking Loved and FEARED labyrinth as a child.
and thank you so much for your comments today! They really started my day in the very best way possible! I assume you are younger than me (since every freaking blogger in this neighborhood is) but you seem like the way cooler older sister I never had. So when I get comments from you it just makes my day! Thank you lovely.
Yaaay, I’m so glad you found a treasure! It’s a digger’s paradise back there, but sometimes I just get way too overwhelmed! It is divine on you!
Also, I think I am in love with your green wall.
This is great! I LOVE velvet. Thank you for giving me a justification for busting it out.
girl you got a find. here i was feeling all bad ass that i got couple finds off ebay (but one smells so weird i just can’t), but you’ve taken it to a whole new level. you’ve ventured into the ‘unknown’ aka smelly rooms filled with moth-filled clothes and treasures and pit stains.
i won’t lie. i’m envious.
that dress is smashing juliet.
xo,

gorgeous. i would see something like this and totally think…”too dramatic, paige. you can’t pull this off. where the heck would you wear it??” but you absolutely make it look as if you threw on your fave t-shirt and worn-in boyfriend jeans and made it happen.
god, you’re amazing.
and thanks for the inspiration.

Finding anything at Reruns for under $40 is a score in itself.
