A dry bird needs a wine with guts.
Heavy tannins and tooth-squeaky turkey flesh can make more than your mouth pucker. Gary Vaynerchuk is the master of brown bag tastings—I guarantee the results will enthuse the budget-conscious wine consumer. Congrats to the winner; I can’t say I’m entirely surprised. Happy turk day!
I dug through the C+C archives for my favorite Zinfandels of the past 2 years. Prices range from about $12 to $30 (Saldo $30, Frank Family $30, Seghesio $20, Wild Hog $25, & Marietta $12), none of which will let you down.
[The deal of all deals. The Marietta Old Vine Red is almost guaranteed to be in stock in my house this time of year.]
Enjoy!

That Saldo does have guts. And the Marietta is awesome with everything- would be a great choice for TG!
Really like the ’07 Seghesio Zin! I served it last year at Thanksgiving and it went over really well. Going Beaujolais Cru this year 🙂
Awesome, good call on the Cru. I haven’t decided what I’m opening yet. I would love to get primed with a great OR Pinot Noir (or the Brick House Gamay Noir could be awesome!) and work the turk with an ’06 Seghesio Old Vine that has been calling to me recently. What Beau Cru are you thinking?
Oh, did I forget to mention the Old-Fashioned I’m gonna have late afternoon? I’m getting excited! Have a great Thanksgiving, btw!
